The #0to60 Fitness campaign has now been launched nationwide by the American Government. The Initiative comes from the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition and the National Foundation on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.
The aim of the FLOTUS’ action is to encourage Americans of all ages to make healthy lifestyle changes and incorporate regular exercise into their routine- as well as improve their nutrition.
It’s hoped it will reduce obesity among Americans too, which is a nationwide issue. More than 1.9 billion adults in the world are overweight currently- with 650 million of them obese. The number of those struggling with obesity has almost tripled from 1975 to now, 2016. It shocks and saddens me that 2.8 million people die a year from becoming obese. It’s definitely now time to shake our routines up.
The campaign includes both a website and an app. The app will put content from leading personalities and leaders in sports, fitness and healthy eating directly into your hands. Along with informative resources and things to really motivate you to make a change (see Performance Lab Multivitamin Review). Free content from the government means everyone has access to this information and which foods we should be eating. It can feel super complicated for someone that is just starting out.
It also features interesting insights into members of the President’s Council, so you can see their day-to-day lives and what they’re doing to improve their health and exercise. So, there’s bound to be something on there to get you moving!

#0to60 Fitness Video with Nick Offerman
Also, if you didn’t see: First Lady, Michelle Obama, teamed up with Funny or Die star, Nick Offerman, in a hilarious video to promote #0to60 Fitness Campaign. Inspired by the 60 year history of the President’s Council, the video shows them going through the history of exercise, recapping each decade in the always-changing fitness world.
Although it shows the way we exercise has changed over the years, choosing to lead a healthy lifestyle stays important. You’ll see many fads from the past you recognise- and would rather forget! Not forgetting the vibrating belt machine from the 1950s, the 80’s aerobics phase (thanks to Jane Fonda no doubt!) and the popular Shake Weight dumbbell seen on TV in the 2000’s. And, plenty of spandex.
If you haven’t seen it, make sure you go watch it! The video was made in partnership with the American Heart Association, the American Council on Exercise and the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association. I don’t know about you, but I’m glad fitness has significantly moved on and our lifestyles have evolved. But it sure was funny to revisit all our previous trends.
Daily exercise is one of my favourite parts of my day and it makes me happy to see my kids enjoying it too and knowing why it’s important. Being a personal trainer for years means I’ve seen the changes first hand, and had to keep my knowledge up to date! But, exercise is in a much more progressive place now, and I’ve seen more and more people enjoying it over the years.
In Honor of the 60th Anniversary of the President’s Council
The #0to60 Fitness Campaign is in honour of the 60th anniversary of the President’s Council- hence the name! I know that was causing some confusion, but I think the idea is great and I’m pleased the government is recognising the importance of a healthy exercise routine and nutritious food. I really hope this gives others the push they need to start a long-lasting healthy lifestyle.
Are you using the app and taking inspiration from it? I’d love to know how many people have shaken-up their routines with this new help from the government. And, how you’re finding it. If you need that extra little bit of help, I post so many healthy, balanced recipes to fit a healthy diet and motivational content regularly on my website.
Nourishing food doesn’t have to be boring and exercise doesn’t have to feel like a chore! Once you’re in a new and healthy routine, you’ll find it much easier to stick to it once you start feeling the amazing benefits of it! It might seem difficult to start with and get going, but you’ll really maintain the changes forever. Your mind and body will improve in the long-run and thank you.
